Extinguishing the official flame of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics marked the end of the Games. Postponed several times amid the Covid epidemic, the world’s largest sports festival began and ended amid protests.
About 30 protesters tried to storm the National Stadium before the closing ceremony.
The closing ceremony was styled by Ska Bands, Break Dancers and others, making it easy for TV cameras to capture. It also showed how the athletes thanked the Japanese people.
The hottest Olympics in history
On the final day, Tokyo recorded the highest temperature ever recorded at an Olympic Games. It is 35 degrees centigrade.
Unexpected – a rain of stars
A year later, the Olympics were finally held in a situation where even Emperor Naruhito of Japan had expressed his concern about holding it. By banning spectators from entering the stadiums, the Japanese lost the opportunity to watch the Summer Olympics live after 1964.
But it was a festival that produced a rain of stars.
● American swimming champion Caeleb Dressel won five gold medals.
● Elaine Thompson-Herah of Jamaica won 3 golds.
● Gymnastics champion Daiki Hashimoto brought two golds to Japan.
There were many unexpected moments at this festival.
● Gianmarco Tamberi of Italy and Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar decided to split the gold medal instead of competing in the final. It was a moment of friendship and brotherhood.
● Lotte Miller, a Norwegian, approached Bulgarian rival Claire Michel and comforted her after finishing last in the all-around athletics competition.
● Simone Biles, the gymnastics champion who thought he would definitely win gold medals, instead withdrew from the competition, highlighting the importance of mental health and leaving the world with something to think about.
As the 2020 Summer Olympics come to an end, the 2020 Winter Olympics begin on February 4, 2022, in China.
Meanwhile, the next Summer Olympics will be held in exactly 3 more years. It was reduced to 4, 3 years due to the fact that this year’s festival was held a year late. France is the host country for next summer’s Olympics. The next Olympic torch will be lit in Paris, the city of light.
The hosting of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, USA, and the hosting of the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane, Australia have already been offered.
