Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid has said he will not retaliate against anyone who opposes him. He was speaking at a press conference in Kabul.
He has said he will “pardon” all Afghans. He also called on Afghans fleeing the capital Kabul to return to their homeland.
The Taliban had called on the Afghan media centre to attend the press conference. It was the first press conference held by the Taliban.
The Taliban spokesman also said that they did not intend to make enemies externally or internally.
He described the new Taliban regime as a victory for Afghanistan’s independence. He also said that congratulations should be extended for that.
The Taliban has said it will “allow” the private media to continue to operate independently. It has been said that such permission is given only if they do not work against national values.
He also said that women are given limited freedom in Islam.
There were also several statements aimed at the international community. They promised to stop the drug trade from Afghanistan and to prevent the use of Afghanistan as a base for terrorism.
