The whole world has been shocked by the death of Robbie Coltrane, who played the role of ‘Hagrid’ in the Harry Potter series, which became very popular around the world. Robbie Coltrane was 72 when he died.
His agent Belinda Wright said in a statement that Robbie Coltrane died in hospital near Falkirk, Scotland. She also mentioned that Robbie Coltrane has been ill for the past two years.
Robbie Coltrane started his acting career in 1979 with a television drama series. Robbie Coltrane was born on March 30, 1950 in Rutherglen, Scotland.
Robbie Coltrane became a huge hit as the half-giant/half-wizard in the Potter series. His brilliant performances and his portrayal of Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter won him worldwide fame and acclaim.
Actor Daniel Radcliffe has said, “Robbie is the funniest person he’s ever met.”
He also gave memorable performances in films like Mona Lisa, Ocean’s Twelve, Nuns on the Run starring Robbie Coltrane. Robbie Coltrane played the Pope in the 1991 comedy The Pope Must Die.
Robbie Coltrane co-starred in the James Bond films Golden Eye and The World Is Not Enough. In the film, he played Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky, a former KGB operative who is a friend of Agent 007.
In the UK, Coltrane also showed his acting prowess on the television screen as forensic psychologist Dr Edward “Fitz” Coltrane in the murder drama series Cracker. He won three consecutive BAFTA Best Actor awards for the performance. It was only equaled by another actor, Michael Gambon.
