Maglev, or magnetic levitation, is considered to be the future of the passenger transport world. China has built the world’s fastest bullet train of that type.
It can reach speeds of up to 600 kilometres per hour or 373 miles per hour. It recently made its maiden voyage from Qingdao, China.
This bullet train, which looks like a steel e-head in the distance, was manufactured by the Chinese Railway Corporation. This is considered to be the fastest train in the world at present.
Because of the use of maglev technology, this train looks like it is floating on rails. In addition to super speeds, China says it has low noise pollution, low emissions from environmental damage, and much lower maintenance costs than other high-speed trains.
The dream of speed
A model of this train was first launched by China in 2019. That same year, China said it would build a train that would cover all of its major metropolitan art in three hours. Accordingly, this high-speed dream has come to life.
‘High speed’ is an absolute priority in China. The high-speed rail link to the world’s most populous cities is at the top of their agendas.
At present, the average speed of a high-speed train in China is 350 kilometres per hour. The average speed of an aeroplane is between 800-900 kilometres per hour. Accordingly, the world’s fastest bullet train floats between the two at moderate speeds.
China already has one maglev train. It connects Shanghai Pudong Airport and Longyang. The 19-mile journey takes only seven and a half minutes. The train was travelling at a speed of 430 kilometres per hour.
Several maglev bullet rail lines are currently under construction connecting Shanghai, Hangzhou, Chengdu, and Chongqing provinces.
